Securing Land Rights on Mailo Land in Uganda

Publication
Published in: GIZ, Uganda

This policy note examines land tenure security and conflict on Uganda’s Mailo land. It discusses the overlapping interests of registered owners and tenants, and reviews measures supported by the Improvement of Land Governance in Uganda project.

The project combined awareness raising, legal information, dispute resolution and boundary demarcation. Land Inventory Protocols provided documentation that could support an application for a Certificate of Occupancy. The publication reports results from the project’s first phase and considers the implications for tenure security and land conflicts.
