Customary Land Registration Near Wetlands in Uganda: Good Practice

Publication
Published in: GIZ, May 2025

This GIZ good practice describes how Uganda’s Responsible Land Policy project combined wetland demarcation with customary land registration. Environmental inspections, mapping and community awareness support the documentation of land adjacent to wetlands while recognizing ecological boundaries.

The approach seeks to strengthen rural tenure security and protect sensitive ecosystems. The publication discusses certificates of customary ownership, land administration and sustainable land use.
