Community Land Action Now! (CLAN!) is supporting communities in Kenya to secure collective land rights under the Community Land Act of 2016. With support from the Tenure Facility, the project combines community registration and titling with stronger local governance, conflict resolution and negotiated approaches to land and natural resources.

Objectives and activities
The project supports pastoralist, forest-dwelling, fishing and farming communities to navigate Kenya’s Community Land Act and secure registered rights. The Tenure Facility describes work with 50 communities toward registration and title across approximately 6.5 million hectares. This is the area targeted by the project, not a claim that titles have already been issued over all of it.
Activities include strengthening community institutions and land management plans, helping resolve disputes through alternative mechanisms, and piloting agreements among communities, government agencies and private actors about forest management and wildlife areas. The project links legal recognition with the practical capacity of communities to govern their land and negotiate with other interests.
