Marta Cavallaro researches displacement and conflict in Somalia, including how local actors shape the places where displaced people live and the options available to them. Her work with Wageningen University’s LAND-at-scale research team examined land governance and displacement, while her research with the NIJAR project at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies investigated the prospects for dialogue between Somali authorities and Al-Shabaab. Her 2024 thesis studied the spatial politics of displacement in Bosaso.
