The Land Facility is a UK-funded technical assistance program that works with partner governments and other stakeholders to improve land governance and strengthen the recognition and protection of land rights. It supports reform of land policy, legislation, administration systems and practice across rural, urban and forest contexts.
Project at a glance
- Status: In implementation; FCDO reports the parent Global Land Governance programme as being in implementation.

- Geographic scope: Global, with demand-driven work in sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
- Funder: UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

- Parent programme identifier: IATI GB-GOV-1-300555.
- Facility delivery record: IATI GB-COH-3799145-781-271750XR, reported by Tetra Tech International Development UK. It records an April 22, 2024 start and December 31, 2030 planned end.
What the Facility does
The Facility supports governments to build political commitment for land reforms, strengthen the capacity of land agencies, and coordinate action across government and with development partners. It combines technical assistance with political economy analysis so that work on policy and administrative systems responds to the institutions and incentives that shape implementation.
Country support may range from short, focused assignments to longer partnerships with in-country teams. The Facility can also support regional or global strategic work. Its intended coverage includes land administration, investment governance, forest and community tenure, women’s rights and climate-related land governance. Activities are developed with partners; a regional scope does not mean that a project operates in every country in the region.
Documented country work
In Nigeria, a short assignment beginning in September 2026 examines barriers to implementing responsible agricultural investment frameworks in Kaduna State and contributes to the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria programme. In eastern Chad, FCDO has described Land Facility support to climate-resilience work on the relationships among land and water rights, migration, conflict and restoration. These are examples, not an exhaustive country list.
