Objectives and activities
In informal settlements, insecure housing and land tenure can constrain women’s ability to make decisions, pursue livelihoods and obtain public services. The project supports civil society organizations and local authorities through training, technical assistance and advocacy. It seeks to improve gender-responsive policies, laws and practices, alongside practical approaches that strengthen women’s access to land, housing and resources for urban agriculture.
Canada identifies gender equality and urban issues as principal objectives. Its reported expected outcomes include stronger policies and programs, better local practices, and stronger networks able to influence decisions. These are intended outcomes; the funding record does not by itself establish that they have all been achieved.
